AstroBoy (アトム, Atomu)—also known in Japan as Mighty Atom or Iron Arm Atom—is a beloved character created by Osamu Tezuka and the peace-loving protagonist of the Astro Boy franchise.

Astro is a humanoid robot with emotions, designed by former Science Ministry director Umataro Tenma. Originally created as the robotic reincarnation of Tobio Tenma, modeled after the boy’s likeness, Astro's journey is filled with hardships.

After being rejected by his creator and sold to a robot circus, where he was forced to battle other robots, he was eventually rescued by Professor Hiroshi Ochanomizu.

Despite his difficult past, Astro embodies heroism with an unwavering sense of justice. A natural pacifist, he seeks diplomatic solutions to conflicts and only resorts to fighting as a last resort.

With extraordinary abilities, he remains deeply compassionate, sharing his creator Osamu Tezuka’s love for life and dedication to protecting those he cares about.

Although Astro Boy is a robot, he was designed to be indistinguishable from a human, closely resembling Tobio Tenma. He shares Tobio’s defining features, including large, innocent eyes, spiky jet-black hair, and a light skin tone.

In some official artwork, he is depicted with doll-like segments on his limbs, though this detail is often omitted. His hairstyle consists of two distinct spikes—one pointing straight up on the left side of his head and another extending outward above his right ear—along with a widow’s peak. Since he is a robot, his height, weight, and hair length remain unchanged.

Astro's signature look includes black athletic-style briefs paired with a metallic gray or green belt. He typically wears knee-high red boots, though in some appearances, he may be depicted with small, lace-less shoes instead. When not dressed in an outfit like his school uniform, this is his default appearance.
